It has been a season of winning once again for CBA Cross Country as the team approaches the biggest meets of the fall.
As the calendar turns to November, CBA has already won the Bowdoin Classic, Manhattan Invitational, Shore Conference and Monmouth County titles this season.
The Colts look to capture another state championship alongside another title at the Meet of Champions over the next two weeks. The big meets do not stop there, however, as the team hopes to turn in a top-two performance at the Nike Regionals to qualify for the National Championship.
The first the the stretch of big meets for the Colts is on November 9 at the NJSIAA Non-Public A State Championship. With 32 state titles in tow, this CBA is primed to add another championship to the trophy case.
Last year, the Colts had the top five finishers of the meet, but just two return this fall. CBA will lean on seniors Ryan Schmitt and Alex Mastroly, as well as juniors Luke Hnatt and Wyatt Falkowski to secure another win.
One week later, the Colts will race at Holmdel Park, looking to win another Meet of Champions title.
Most notably, senior Joe Barrett looks to break a record at the Meet of Champions. He eyes the record set by former CBA runner and current Athletic Director Michael Mazzaccaro ‘11. Mazzaccaro set the Holmdel Park record in 2010 and Barrett has been close to reaching that mark over the past two years.
To advance to Nationals, the Colts need to finish as one of the top two teams at Nike Regionals in New York, which will take place on November 23. Last year, current seniors Barrett and Mastroly had good performances in the Championship race with Barrett finishing sixth and Mastroly finishing 22nd. Hnatt and sophomore Gavin Schmitt placed second and third in the open division last year. They look to help the team reach a 14th consecutive Nike Nationals appearance.
