The Christian Brothers Academy sailing team is headed to the Mid-Atlantic District Championship for the 14th consecutive time, after qualifying this past weekend at Toms River Yacht Club.
The Colts advanced after a 20-race, two day series on the Toms River, greeted with conditions ranging from cold, big breeze on Saturday to light wind and warmer temperatures on Sunday.
Christian Brothers was led by senior Joe LaForgia, sophomore Justin Modin and freshman John Cocozza in the A division. The A division squad won three of the six races sailed on Saturday. Junior Michael Ehnot, sophomore Ryan Mullins and freshman Joe David made up the B division for CBA, only finishing outside the top four in one race over the weekend.
The Mid-Atlantic Districts will take place this upcoming weekend at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point in New York. The Mid-Atlantic region is composed of high school teams from New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia.
The Colts streak of qualifying dates back to 2010 and is the longest active streak of any New Jersey team.
This weekend's qualifying comes after CBA won two open events over the previous two weekends, the SUNY Martime Invitational and the OCC Invitational.
