The individual portion of the CBA Wrestling schedule is always an exciting time for the Colts. This year proved to be no different.

Hosted by the Academy, the Colts entered the District 21 Tournament with 14 wrestlers and left with 13 advancing to Region 6 Tournament. CBA was named the district team winner for the fifth consecutive year.

Eleven of the 13 qualifiers won their weight class, including Sean Kenny (106), Paul Kenny (120), Teag Saito (126), Bobby Duffy (132), Randy Jenks (138), Will Sakoutis (144), Jimmy Jakub (150), Brendan Boyer (157), AJ Falcone (165), Tyler Palumbo (215), and Jacob Howland (285). Brock Oizerowitz (175) finished second, while Jarred O’Neill (190) took third.

Those 13 Colts flexed their muscle at the Region 6 Tournament, leaving Jackson Liberty High School with nine region champions - the most in CBA history - and 11 overall state qualifiers.

The 10 Colts will wrestle in the NJSIAA Individual State Tournament on March 6 through 8 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.

Duffy, a junior, is locked in for his chance to compete against the state’s best. Duffy has an overall record this year of 20-3, making him the second best wrestler in the 132-pound weight class according to NJ.com.

“I’m preparing by doing what I’ve done all year and just focusing on wrestling,” Duffy said. “I am not worrying about the [state] seeds, but just controlling what I can control.”

Falcone was named Region 6 Most Outstanding Wrestler for his title win in the 165-pound class. The senior captain earned the second seed in his state bracket, which will be his third and final appearance at the individual states.

“We have worked hard and prepared for this opportunity all season,” Falcone said. “We believe in our preparation and we are ready to compete against the best.”

Sophomore Paul Kenny enters the individual states with CBA’s best seed, as he is the number one wrestler in the 120-pound bracket. His younger brother, freshman Sean, is seeded number three in the 106-pound bracket.
