LINCROFT--Christian Brothers Academy's Friday afternoon game against Freehold Borough was personal.

The Colts, No. 1 in the NJ.com Top 20, remembered losing to borough twice last season and both times the Colonials pitched their ace Steve Rullo.

It came as no surprise that the senior righty was once again the hurler for the Group 4 squad, but this time around Christian Brothers got the best things.

CBA tagged Rullo for five runs through three innings and used a rally in the bottom of the sixth to down Freehold Borough, 9-7, at Christian Brothers Academy.

"This one was personal, especially for the guys that were around last year," senior Ken Campbell said. "Borough 10-runned us and one-hit us. We came here wanting to make a statement and I think we did that today."

Campbell was at the heart of the Colts' two-out rally in the bottom of the sixth. After a Nick Hohenstein double brought home Luke Chece to tie the score 7-7, Campbell ripped a double to plate Hohenstein and put Christian Brothers ahead 8-7. Brendan Galvin give CBA and insurance when he singled home Campbell and Evan Menendez, who earned the winning allowing no hits and striking two through 1 and 2/3, closed the door.

"I have all the confidence in the world in Evan," Campbell, who gave up five earned runs (seven total) on seven hits through 5 1/3 as the starter, said. "I knew that once we got that two-run lead that we'd be able to get the job done."

Christian Brothers took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first with Luca Dalatri and Hohenstein bringing in Cid Porter and Brandon Martorano respectively.

Freehold Borough tied the score at 2-2 in the top of the second when Phil Marcantonio scored on a throwing error and a Ryan Yee, who was three-for-three, double brought in Nick Zuppe. The Colts regained a two-run lead in the bottom of the inning when Martorano brought home Andrea Dalatri and Menendez with a two-out double.

The Colonials were not done and exploded for four runs, highlighted by a three-run blast from Tom Holdorf, to take a 6-4 lead. CBA battled back with runs in the third and fourth, but entered the bottom of the sixth trailing 7-6 following a solo shot from Yee.

The Colts were down to their final out after No. 3 hitter Martorano and cleanup hitter Dalatri were both retired. Holdorf was a pitch away from getting out of the trouble, but Hohenstein, Campbell and Galvin were able to bring CBA its lead back.

"I was just trying to put on a hit, get some runs in and get us going," Galvin said. "We have a very strong lineup throughout this year. When we all come together, we can do some serious damage. We showed that today."
