This season, one boat stood out as the top performer for CBA Sailing, delivering remarkable consistency and success.
Cole Buczkowski ‘27 and Matthew Dupree ‘25 dominated on the water, securing top-four finishes in all the Colts’ regattas and clinching first place in five out of 11 events. Their exceptional performance as a duo earned them the honor of being named CBA Digital Network’s Boat of the Fall.
“What led to our success this fall was the teamwork we put in and helping each other when someone would struggle,” Dupree stated.
Buczkowski and Dupree's standout fall propelled the Colts to the prestigious Atlantic Coast Championship. To help the team qualify for the ACC, Buczkowski and Dupree finished fourth in A Division at the Mid-Atlantic District Championship in Virginia.
The pair’s success was fueled by their exceptional teamwork and chemistry on and off the water.
“Every day we went out there to build chemistry, worked on our skills, and we built up a friendship over the season,” Buczkowski stated.
It was their A Division win at the League Championship that set them up for their success at the District Championship. At the League Championship in Toms River, they placed first out of 13 teams, showcasing that they are one of the best duos in the state.
“These two were regularly at the top of the fleet in New Jersey and their finish at the District Championship was a big reason we qualified for the Atlantic Coast Championship,” head coach Jason Lutz said.
Buczkowski and Dupree were undeniably integral to the team’s achievements this season, as having a partner who is eager to do well helps fuel success.
“We practice hard, through the ups and downs we are always there to support each other,” Buczkowski said.
The pair had additional A Division wins in September, at the season opening Sailfest Trophy Regatta and a week later at the Back to School Regatta.
Supporting each other and practicing hard allowed them to win early season regattas that allowed for later success in the season.
“Cole is a great competitor and we eyed to finish number one each time, which helped us be the best we could be,” Dupree said, giving praise to his teammate’s competitive edge.
Overall, the duo of Buczkowski and Dupree had a phenomenal season. With regattas like the state championship and national championship in the spring, the duo will look to carry their momentum over the next season.
