Christian Brothers Academy Sailing did not waste the opportunity to advance to the final weekend of the national high school sailing season.
The Colts qualified for the Atlantic Coast Championship, considered the nation's top fall regatta, by way of two top finishes.
The ladder events started with the NJISA Fall Fleet League Championship on October 12 and 13 in Toms River. Christian Brothers finished second overall, narrowly missing winning the regatta by two points.
The trio of Cole Buczkowski '27, Seth Santos '27 and Matthew Dupree '25 was the catalyst for the good performance, as they won the A Division at the event. CBA's B Division featured Patrick Kennedy '28 and Alton DeOliveria '26, who finished third in that division.
The top-two finish qualified the Colts for the next regatta, which was the Mid-Atlantic District Championship in Hampton, Virginia on October 19 and 20. Sailing against teams from four different states, CBA finished sixth overall.
Buczkowski and Dupree had another excellence performance against talented competition, taking fourth in A Division. A crucial stretch of seven-straight single digit races on Sunday clinched a berth at the Atlantic Coast Championship.
It was the fourth time in program history that CBA Sailing qualified for the Atlantic Coast Championship, with the last coming in Fall 2021. The Atlantic Coast Championship will feature teams from the New England, Mid-Atlantic, South Atlantic and Midwest regions.
