Christian Brothers Academy Wrestling showed up in full force to the 2024 NJSIAA Individual State Championships in Atlantic City.
The Colts sent 11 wrestlers to the Individual States on March 1-3, after dominating both the District 27 Tournament and Region 7 Tournament.
At the District 27 Tournament, Christian Brothers won 10 weights on the day, rolling to a big team title. For the third straight year, senior Alex Nini was a champion, this time at 144 pounds, and earned the tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestler for the second year in a row. Senior Tyler Venet (150 lbs) also won his weight class for a third consecutive year.
In total, 12 Colts advanced to the Region 7 Tournament, which was held the following weekend at Lenape High School. CBA also won the team title at Region 7, which advanced those 11 wrestlers to the Individual State Championships.
Along with Nini and Venet, Killian Coluccio (106), Paul Kenny (113), Bobby Duffy (120), Randy Jenks (126), AJ Falcone (138), Nick Campagna (157), Brendan Boyer (165), Brock Oizerowitz (175) and Jacob Howland (285) qualified for a trip to Atlantic City.
Nini advanced to the 144-pound State Championship, where he ultimately lost a tough bout. His silver medal was CBA's top finisher of the season.
Coluccio and Kenny both earned third place finishes, while Campagna was seventh and Oizerowitz was eighth.
It was another banner season for CBA Wrestling, finishing 15-2 on the year and 8-0 in the Shore. With plenty of talent returning next winter, the Colts will be ready for another run at state titles.
