After an untimely loss in last year's Gordon Cup Tournament, the Colts were on a mission to bring the cup back in Lincroft this season.
Taking a 21-game winning streak into the tournament final, top-seeded CBA shutout third-seeded Don Bosco, 2-0, to win its 10th Gordon Cup in team history. It is the second conference title in three years for the Colts.
Senior Aidan Guinnessey netted a goal in the first period and senior goaltender John Donohoe continued his dominant defense to propel Christian Brothers to the victory.
Guinnessey has been a catalyst down the stretch for CBA, scoring seven times in the past seven games. He is third on the team in goals scored with 13.
Junior Leighton Biesiadecki added an insurance goal in the third period, extending his own scoring streak to four games.
Donohoe, who missed much of last season with an injury, has regained his 2020 form, a year that saw him win NJ.com Player of the Year. He saved 33 shots in the win, his fourth career shutout against the Ironmen.
He has allowed just 21 goals on 352 shots, which is good for a 92.7 save percentage.
Christian Brothers will now look ahead to the NJSIAA Non-Public State Tournament, where they are once again the top seed. After receiving a first round BYE, CBA's second round matchup is against St. Joseph Regional (Montvale) on February 23 (4:45 p.m., Jersey Shore Arena).
