Eight Christian Brothers Academy Baseball athletes were recognized by Rawlings & Perfect Game USA as preseason All-American caliber players, as announced by the two companies on Thursday morning.
The CBA selections were headlined by seniors Luca Dalatri and Brandon Martorano, who were both named to the senior class preseason All-American third team. Dalatri, a right-handed pitcher, was named the New Jersey Gatorade Player of the Year in 2015. Both Colts have committed to continue playing baseball at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
Dalatri and Martorano, a catcher, have both been honored twice before by Rawlings/Perfect Game, in 2014 as underclassmen honorable mentions and in 2015 as underclassmen All-American second team selections.
Rawlings/Perfect Game preseason All-American honorees are the top 150 players from the all-region pool, out of a Rawlings/Perfect Game estimate of 450,000 high school players in the nation.
Demonstrating the potential depth behind the senior leaders, six other Colts were selected as underclassmen All-American honorable mentions.
Andrea Dalatri (third base), Nick Hohenstein (RHP), Ronald Meehan (RHP), Sal Morreale (LHP), Mason O'Mara (RHP) and Joe Sparber (catcher) were selected as honorable mentions.
Christian Brothers Academy will open the 2016 season at home on Monday, April 4th against Freehold Township, with first pitch scheduled for 3:45 p.m.
