CBA Athletics | 11/9/2018

For a fourth straight fall season, Christian Brothers Academy soccer is back in the Non-Public A State Championship.

The Colts (18-4) used a 4-1 win over St. Augustine Prep on Thursday night to secure the berth to the state title game. The championship will be played at Kean University on Sunday at 5:30 p.m.

In Thursday's sectional final, senior Jack Gill got the scoring started for the Colts, giving CBA a 1-0 lead going into halftime. Senior captain Joey Lozowski scored to open the second half, his first of two second frame goals. After the Hermits closed the gap to 2-1, Liam Mulvey's goal extended the CBA lead back to two.

It is the fourth consecutive South Jersey sectional title for the Colts.

The Colts will face the winner of the North Jersey Sectional, state rival Delbarton. The Green Wave dispatched Seton Hall Prep in penalty kicks to advance.

The Colts and Delbarton have plenty of history in the state final game, as Delbarton edged CBA in 2017, while CBA downed the Green Wave in 2011. They have played a total of six times in the state final prior to this season.

CBA has won six state championships in 2016, 2011, 2002, 2000, 1998 and 1992.

Sunday's championship will begin at 5:30 p.m. Tickets will be available at the Kean University gate. For those who cannot attend the game, NJ.com will be streaming the game for a small fee at highschoolsportsvideo.nj.com.
