The Christian Brothers Academy Athletics Department has announced the return of Scott Belford as head coach of the crew program after a year away from CBA.

Belford was the first head coach of the CBA crew program when the team originated in 2005. During his first stint as head coach, Belford led the 60-member program to three scholastic national championships and two Stotesbury Cup titles, which is considered one of the most prestigious regattas in the country. His boats had a record of 756-66 at the Stotesbury Cup overall.

"I am excited to work with a talented and enthusiastic group of returning rowers, who are determined to continue the CBA tradition of excellence and be a nationally competitive program for years to come," Belford said.

In addition to his national accomplishments with the Colts, Belford's CBA boats have won multiple titles at the Garden State Championships and the highly-competitive Philadelphia Cup races.

Prior to joining the CBA team in 2005, Belford was a master coach at the Northeast Rowing Center in Maine, which is one of the nation's best high school rowing camps. He has also led three college programs at the University of Pennsylvania, Princeton University and the College of William & Mary. Belford led Princeton to grand final appearances at the NCAA National Championships, while also propelling the William & Mary team to its all-time best record in 1999.

Belford has international coaching experience, as well, heading the U.S. Junior National Team in 2009 and 2010. During his time with the Junior Men's 2 National Team, Belford coached the 2009 and 2010 World Championships in France and the Czech Republic. In addition, he managed the U.S. Rowing Women's National Team Development Camp at the Vesper Boat Club on Philadelphia's Schuylkill River, leading the team to five national championships.

An avid rower himself, Belford was the team captain of the Rutgers University rowing team, winning the Frank Cahill Memorial Rowing Trophy for outstanding contributions to the team.

The CBA crew program is comprised of nearly 60 student-athletes between a varsity team and a freshman team. Freshman tryouts will begin on September 12th.
