CBA Athletics is pleased to announce that Nick Schutzenhofer '17 (Varsity Wrestling) and Kevin Volkov '16 (Varsity Swimming) are the January Student-Athletes of the Month, sponsored by Tinton Falls Orthopedic & Sports Physical Therapy.

Nick Schutzenhofer | Varsity Wrestling | Junior | Atlantic Highlands, N.J.

The Rundown:

With CBA leading Howell by three points in the Shore Conference Championship, Nick Schutzenhofer- better known as "Schutz"- stepped onto the mat and outlasted his 106-lb. opponent to clinch the Colts' first-ever Shore Conference title on January 30th. Schutz is a model of resiliency, playing on the JV team for his first two years at CBA. His only loss during the regular season was to his Shore Conference Championship opponent, who he then beat to send his team home with a trophy.

Off the mat, Schutz enjoys helping children, raising money for the St. Jude's Children Hospital and volunteering his time as a youth wrestling coach.

What They Are Saying About Nick:

"Every time Nick steps on the mat, he has a clear focus to give an all-out effort. He is an inspiration to his coaches and his teammates. His performance in the Shore Conference Finals was the hallmark of a true champion." - head coach Russ Witt

Kevin Volkov | Varsity Swimming | Senior | Manalapan, N.J.

The Rundown:

The distance freestyle swimmer won two Shore Conference individual titles (200 & 500 freestyle) and was part of the gold medal winning 400 freestyle relay. Volkov was also crowned Monmouth County Champion in the 500 freestyle and was part of the Monmouth County Championship team in the 400 freestyle relay. Earlier in the season, Kevin set a new CBA school record in the 500 with a time of 4:42.50 vs. Peddie.

Out of the pool, his coaches and teammates frequently turn to Volkov when organizing service trips, such as their trip to the St. Lucy Emergency Shelter in Jersey City over Christmas break.

What They Are Saying About Kevin:

"Kevin is an outstanding competitor who has continued to improve during his four years at CBA. He has a drive to win, not only as an individual, but more importantly to help the team succeed. Although not the most vocal swimmer on the team, he is a selfless teammate that does a tremendous job leading by example." - head coach Vito Chiaravalloti
